Mick Swales

Mick has more than twenty-five years’ experience of working in frontline politics and public affairs. He worked as a senior political adviser to government ministers and shadow ministers, providing advice on policy, strategy and communications across several ministerial briefs. He acted as Operations Director on Labour party leadership and deputy leadership campaigns, providing political and communications counsel to both Andy Burnham and Alan Johnson.

In 2015 Mick established North Star Public Affairs, providing strategic public affairs and political advice to a range of private and public sector organisations, mainly based in the north of England. He acts as an adviser to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Yorkshire & Northern Lincolnshire and to the One Yorkshire committee, a partnership between local government and business leaders campaigning for greater devolution to the Yorkshire region.

Mick works as an associate of GenNorth, providing strategic public affairs advice across a number of sectors including utilities, property and planning, healthcare, local government and transport.
