Keighley MET Hub
GenNorth supported Luminate Education Group (LEG) as Project Monitor for the Keighley MET Hub, a purpose-built facility designed to address skills shortages in manufacturing, engineering, and technology. Situated at Providence Park, opposite the existing Keighley College, the initiative was funded through the MHCLG Towns Fund and aimed to equip local learners with technical and practical expertise to thrive in modern industries.
Following months of collaboration, the Grant Funding Agreement (GFA) between LEG and Bradford City Council was finalised and signed in September 2024. At this stage, GenNorth formally assumed the role of Project Monitor, overseeing compliance with the GFA and the efficient allocation of funds. Responsibilities included preparing and submitting funding claims for LEG, ensuring timely review and approval by Bradford City Council. Simultaneously, they monitored the construction phase, reviewed planning discharges, contractor warranties, and design deliverables, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
Additionally, GenNorth evaluated and advised on the cost implications of tenant variations, managing changes within the agreed funding envelope. Monthly reporting to LEG maintained transparent communication, keeping stakeholders informed of milestones and challenges.
Practical Completion was achieved in February 2025 followed by the college's bespoke fit out. The Keighley MET Hub has left a lasting impact on the local community by equipping learners with skills to succeed in a rapidly evolving economy. GenNorth took pride in its pivotal role in supporting this transformative project.
The MET Hub created a state-of-the-art learning environment featuring advanced manufacturing workshops, digital technology spaces, and training facilities tailored to sectors such as textiles, IT networks, cybersecurity, and online marketing. Emphasising real-world business environments, the Hub integrated hands-on training with academic instruction, ensuring learners met industry standards. A notable element of the project involved embedding 45 days of work experience into every T-level qualification, providing students with valuable exposure to real-world practices.
GenNorth’s involvement began in January 2024, when the team assisted LEG with cost control measures and the coordination of tenant requirements for the facility. They ensured LEG’s operational needs were incorporated into the Agreement for Lease (AFL) with the landlord. Early collaboration involved developing detailed cost breakdowns and cashflows, facilitating productive negotiations with Bradford City Council and aligning stakeholders on the project's scope and funding needs.
