Challenges & Solutions
Maintaining the delivery programme for the welding building while navigating approvals with network rail which necessated changes to the wider project masterplan
As part of a broader campus redevelopment, which includes a scaffolding training centre due in spring 2025, GenNorth managed the project to ensure on-time delivery for teaching post-October half term. Collaborating closely with design teams and contractors, GenNorth navigated challenges like delays in site commencement due to Network Rail approvals, ongoing design changes, and curriculum alignment. Their proactive coordination ensured efficient teamwork and adherence to tight deadlines.
The facility also emphasises sustainability, featuring an air source heat pump for low-carbon heating and integration into the campus’s renewable energy strategy. Solar panels on the adjacent scaffolding centre further enhance energy efficiency and reduce the building’s carbon footprint.
A collaborative approach with estates and curriculum teams ensured the design met educational needs. This modern, adaptable facility accommodates various welding techniques and supports optimal learning environments. It marks a milestone in the college’s investment in vocational training, providing students with advanced tools and resources for mastering welding skills.
