Capital Projects Programme Management
GenNorth was appointed to support the delivery of Luminate Education Group’s ambitious £100 million capital projects programme, spanning nine major initiatives. The programme was funded through a combination of sources, including the Further Education Capital Transformation Fund, Post-16 Capacity Fund, Department for Education Loans, and the Levelling Up Towns Fund allocations. This diverse funding portfolio provided the necessary resources to advance educational infrastructure across the region but presented significant logistical and management challenges due to its scale and complexity.
While Luminate Education Group demonstrated remarkable success in securing substantial capital funding, it lacked the internal capacity to oversee and manage such a large and multifaceted programme. To address this gap, GenNorth was brought on board to fill critical project management roles and establish a comprehensive programme management layer. This layer was designed to ensure robust governance, oversight, and coordination across the programme, which was strategically vital for the organisation and its stakeholders.
The programme faced the additional challenge of meeting the unique deadlines and reporting requirements set by each funding stream. Recognising this, GenNorth introduced a streamlined process to manage and monitor these complexities effectively.
This included:
Claims Management: A structured approach to ensure that funding claims were submitted accurately and on time, minimising the risk of delays or funding gaps.
Progress Reporting: The development of standardised templates and reporting formats to ensure consistency in project updates across all initiatives. This enabled clear communication and easier aggregation of data for programme-wide insights.
Delivery Processes: Establishing clear, efficient procedures for project delivery, ensuring that milestones were met, and objectives achieved.
These measures were instrumental in building confidence among both internal stakeholders and external partners. The structured approach not only demonstrated that the projects were under control but also fostered an environment where potential risks and issues could be identified early and addressed proactively. Robust monitoring mechanisms enabled the team to respond swiftly to emerging challenges, ensuring that the programme remained on track.
As of now, GenNorth continues to provide essential support to Luminate Education Group. This ongoing collaboration underscores the value of GenNorth's expertise in managing complex, multi-faceted programmes. Their work ensures that Luminate Education Group can focus on its core mission—delivering high-quality education—while maintaining confidence in the timely and effective delivery of its capital projects.
The success of this partnership highlights the importance of professional programme management in achieving strategic goals. By leveraging its experience and tailored processes, GenNorth has played a pivotal role in enabling Luminate Education Group to optimise the benefits of its substantial funding allocations, ensuring that the projects contribute meaningfully to regional education and development objectives.
