Seacroft Hospitals Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC)
GenNorth were appointed as Project Manager by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to deliver the Seacroft Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).
Delivering an extension to an existing aged hospital site, to house the new CT scanning facilities, upgrades to MEP services and refurbishment of the existing Radiology department, the scheme has provided the local community with access to diagnostic testing closer to their homes, reducing the pressure on the acute hospital sites.
Key works encompassed:
A new build extension housing control and CT rooms, plus a radiographer’s hub
Lead-lined X-ray rooms with upgraded Unistrut ceilings
Improved ventilation with a new air handling unit
A fire escape and enhanced interiors and exteriors across the 446 sqm structure
Two new flat roofs and an external modular plant room
Challenges and Solutions:
A number of challenges were faced during construction. Operating within a live clinical environment posed difficulties, which required careful planning and coordination to avoid disrupting essential hospital operations. Site logistics and deliveries were complex, given the congested hospital grounds. Additionally, with multiple construction projects happening simultaneously at Seacroft, clear communication and seamless coordination were essential to prevent delays.
Phase 1 & 2 completed in October 24 with the facility now providing patients with access to CT and X Ray services 7 days a week enabling the NHS to cut waiting times and improve patient experience.
Phase 3 is currently on-site, due to complete in June 25 with the completion of a second CT Room, a training provision for Radiology students and a refurbishment to the remaining areas within the department.
Key Achievements:
Despite its complexities and challenges a number of key achievements were realised including;
Enabling thousands of patients access to diagnostic tests closer to home, leading to faster diagnosis and better outcomes.
Providing a fully functioning CT scanning facility to be used as a training facility for students.
Providing staff with a much needed refurbished Radiology department, improving facilities for the first time in many years.
