Stockton Riverside College Summer Works
The Education Training Collective (Etc.), a diverse educational group comprising institutions like Stockton Riverside College, Redcar and Cleveland College, and NETA Training, embarked on the 2024 Summer Works programme to enhance facilities and create an improved environment for students and staff.
GenNorth took on the roles of Project Manager, Cost Manager, and Contract Administrator. Our scope included managing the design team, engaging stakeholders, appointing consultants and contractors (including Fire Safety and Principal Designers), overseeing the main contractor, conducting contract negotiations, and handling commercial management.
Under a tight schedule, the main contractor was selected directly through the Procure Partnerships Framework. This approach streamlined the process, allowing the project to be completed within the summer period, ensuring readiness for the new academic year.
The project resulted in significant upgrades across multiple areas:
Online Exam Facilitation Room: Within the learning and resource centre, a new space was created to host over 20 individuals for online assessments. The room adhered to stringent security, space, and CCTV guidelines.
Agile Office Space: Existing office areas were transformed into a flexible workspace for administrative staff. This included two meeting rooms, breakout spaces, and 34 hot desks.
IT Teaching Suites: Office space was reconfigured to house two IT teaching suites, enhancing the college’s ICT teaching capabilities.
Student Services Hub: This area was refurbished to create a more welcoming and comfortable space for students, thereby enriching their overall experience.
Despite challenges, the programme met its tight nine-week deadline. Key solutions included ensuring contractor flexibility for unforeseen issues, adhering to strict safeguarding policies, and adapting to regulatory requirements—such as installing additional fire stopping measures in the IT suites.
The Stockton Riverside College Summer Works programme exemplified effective project delivery under time constraints, achieving its goal of elevating the educational and working environments for students and staff.
